Marinepool x Wai
The Story Behind
Founded in 2017, WAI was created in Italy from a shared vision between Alberto Celante and Luciano Zandonà to develop unique, luxurious footwear for travel that combines style with ultimate comfort. The brand name "WAI" was chosen as a tribute to Thailand, where the traditional greeting with joined hands, or "wai," inspired Celante during his travels.
In 2022, Gianfranco Zago, a footwear expert and partner of WAI, joined forces with German entrepreneur and former world-class sailor Robert Stark to expand the brand into new European markets, with a focus on the boating and yachting industry. The two recognized that WAI shoes are the ideal solution for yachts over 50 feet, providing everyone on board protection from hot teak decks during the summer while maintaining the sensation of walking barefoot. In addition, their versatility and lightness elevate for indoor living below deck.
Two years later, in collaboration with Marinepool, three distinct styles are introduced, that capture the spirit of the ocean, seamlessly blending maritime lifestyle with exceptional Italian craftsmanship. Designed for travelers who appreciate quality and artistry, each pair comes with an exclusive travel bag for convenient storage and easy access on the go.
